Reliance WiMax with Wireless router
If you use Reliance WiMax in India for your broadband Internet connectivity, here is a trick on how to get it to work with your WiFi Router.
Most people hate the services provided by Reliance WiMax. I am in fact on the other side of the fence. The service is working remarkable well for me at home (touch wood!). This is primarily due to the fact that their WiMax tower is only about 1km from my house and line-of-sight to the tower is very good.
Their ‘Customer Service’ standards though is questionable. Infact, their service engineers do not allow you to configure your Wireless Router with their service when they come for installation mentioning that its not permitted!!
So, is it easy to get this done on your own?
It’s quite simple. I realized that for my account, they have tied it down to the MAC address of my Ethernet card on the laptop. It took me a while to figure this out. Most wireless routers allow you to clone the MAC address for their ‘WAN’ interface. All I had to do was to provide my Ethernet MAC address to clone. Wallah! Wireless connectivity with Reliance WiMax worked without a glitch after that.
