A DVD Ripper called HandBrake
HandBrake is an open-source GPLed, cross-platform DVD to MPEG-4 converter.
HandBrake is available on Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows. It supports DVDs, VOBs and some .TS files. The output format ranges from MP4, MKV, AVI to OGM.
As HandBrake is an open-source application, you have full access to its source code. As a developer, you can extend the application in any way you see fit as long as you comply with the GPL license.

I also use handbrake. But I use mac the ripper first.
