Firefox 2.0.0.19 to be the last security update for Firefox 2

Firefox 2.0.0.19 is slated to be released on December 16, and is believed to be the last security update for Firefox 2. [via Computer World]

In this version, the anti-phishing feature is being removed. This is on the recommendation of Google because Firefox 2 uses a now obsolete protocol of Safe Browsing. Firefox 3 is using the new protocol and there are no changes expected in Firefox 3 with regards to this.

We strongly encourage you to upgrade to Firefox 3, so that you get the latest updates and features for Firefox.

Alternatively, if you want to stick to Firefox 2, you can use these plugins instead of Safe Browsing: Netcraft Toolbar, WOT (Web of Trust) or FirePhish.
